Explanations
Kids Think Link has many features and activities, some of which you can earn points and prizes.

The activities are fun but educational at the same time!  For example, while students are using and building up their writing skills in Build A Story, they also can have the fun to make an interesting or funny story.

Below is a list of all the Kids Think Link features and a short explanation about them.  Have fun!

Point Bank

Point Bank is Kids Think Link's "bank" of points that students earn by submitting answers, ideas, etc. to Kids Think Link features or by winning contests and games (not the games in Just For Fun - those are just for fun!).  Each student who has earned any points will have an account in the bank and their points will accumulate here.  See Earning Points to learn what you can cash points into and which features of Kids Think Link offers points.  Then come back here to find out how to participate!

Teacher Feature

Every month, a different teacher or staff member will be "featured" in this page of the website.  This will include interesting information about their likes and dislikes, their education, and their lives in general.  Something that most people would not know about the staff member is also featured.

Help find Wilber!  Wilber, pictured below, has become lost somewhere in the site.  You must help find him!  Each week he will be hidden in a different spot on the site.  If you discover him, submit his location and earn points!  To find him, look on every page.  See if he is out in the open.  Move your mouse over and click on all images.  He may be hiding anywhere. . .

Computer Corner

Computer Corner will give useful information for using a computer.  Some lessons will explain software, some lessons will give helpful tips, and some lessons will instruct in a very detailed manner how to accomplish something using the computer (i.e. make a slide show).  This page will be updated anywhere from weekly to monthly, depending on how much information is presented.

Riddler
What is a very fun feature on Kids Think Link?
The Riddler!

Each week there will be a new riddle at the bottom of the page.  Try to figure out the answer and submit it.  If you are correct, you will earn 2 points.  Even if you are not correct but still tried, you will get 1 point.

At the top of the page is the previous week's riddle.  If you put your mouse over it, the answer will appear!  You can check if you were right or see the answer to one you just couldn't figure out!

Each week there will be a few new jokes on this page.  Some jokes on the page will be more fitting for the younger students, and some for the older students (not inappropriate - just not as understandable for the younger students).

Build a Story includes two different current stories that will be written by the kids of St.Gabriel School as well as a copy previous year's stories. (2005-2006 and 2006-2007 school years) One story, called the "Krazy Story" will be a story that is fantasy fiction.  Anything pretty much goes, and we will do very little, if any editing (providing the sentence is appropriate).  This story will no doublt evolve into a crazy, chaotic story.  The second story called "Real Story" (actual title given later in the year) will again be like the 2005-2006 story, "The Magic Within", where we actually try to create a real, understandable, interesting story.  This year's Real Story will be the continuation of last year's Real Story (we did not complete it).

**Authors (Adam and Jan Hastings) reserve the right to edit sentences (in both stories) to correct spelling, grammar, tense, and/or to better fit the story.
Here is how you can participate:

  • Go to the Build A Story page to see current stories.
    • Black sentences are created by original author.
    • Blue sentences have been submitted by students (names in red follow).
  • Read the full story and the tips to writing your sentence.
  • Write a sentence (or two) that continues the story well. (We want the story to continue
until the end of the school year,  so don't write sentences that bring the story to a close).
  • Submit your sentence to Adam Hastings each week (methods of submitting listed at the top of this page)
  • When you submit a sentence: MAKE SURE TO LABEL WHICH STORY YOUR SENTENCE IS FOR: REAL OR "KRAZY"
  • The website is updated every Monday.
  • Check each week to see if your sentence was picked.
  • Occasionally, if not enough sentences are received for a week, the story may remain the same.  Then, you should submit another sentence or two for the same point in the story and hopefully there will be enough to choose from the next week.
  • Write a sentence for the next week.
  • Each week, one point will be awarded to each person that submits a sentence, and two points will be awarded to the student whose sentence is chosen.
**Again, authors (Adam and Jan Hastings) reserve the right to edit sentences (in both stories) to correct spelling, grammar, tense, and/or to better fit the story.

Build A Song

Build a Song is a page where we will try to compose a song in the same way that we handle Build A Story.  Each week students can submit a note or two either on paper to Adam Hastings or via e-mail to h1adam@aol.com.  The site contains a player button which will play the song that is written so far, and a keyboard that will allow the student to hear the notes that they are choosing.  (At a future date, we may try to write lyrics to the song.)  We will award 1 point to every person that submits  a note for the song, and 2 points to the person whose note(s) is chosen.

Proofread For Prizes

Every week there will be an intentional error somewhere on the Kids Think Link site.  This error can be a spelling or gramatical error, or it can be a "mechanical" error (such as - you click on the button for Have a Laugh and the Riddler comes up instead and vice-versa).   Do not look  for spelling or gramatical errors in the Build a Story stories (It may be on the Build A Story main page, though).  Submit the mistake you found through the Submissions part of the site by the end of Saturday or on paper to Adam Hastings before the end Friday each week.

Five points will be awarded to each person that submits the correct answer.

Mystery
Letter

Each week of a quarter, there will be a new mystery letter listed. When unscrambled, these letters will make a word, phrase, or possibly a short sentence.  Write them down and try to unscramble the letters.  At the end of each quarter, if you think you figured out the mystery, submit the answer through the Submissions part of the site.  (We will notify you on both the site when it comes time to answer)  Fifteen points will be awarded and accumulated in Point Bank for correct answers.

Virtual Treasure Hunt

Virtual Teasure Hunt is a "pretend" treasure hunt.  We will "pretend" we are hiding a small picture of St. Gabriel (2 inches by 2 inches) somewhere in the school or on the school grounds.  Each week on this page we will give a new clue about where this picture is as well as incorrect guesses from the week before.   Try to figure out where we've "hidden" the paper.  Submit your guess through the Submissions part of the site or on paper to Adam Hastings before the end of Friday each week.  Ten points will be awarded to the first person that comes up with the correct answer.  Then we will start a new "Treasure Hunt."

(Remember, there is not really something hidden - we are just pretending!)
